Google’s Hopes in Android Platform Tie Into a Bright Future for Smartphone Users
Ten years from now things will be very different when we walk into a store to buy a new phone. At least that’s what the Open Handset Alliance group (which includes Google) is hoping for.
First, we won’t be walking into a store for a specific device that will perform functions x, y, and z. The hope is that all phones by then will have a standardized OS that will truly have a universal look and feel and be as easy to use as 1-2-3 for the consumer.
There will be none of this carrier-envy and my BlackBerry can do this and your iPhone can’t do that. It’s going to be all standardized, all open source, and all easy to use.
Sounds too good to be true? Yes, in some ways it does. I also have to wonder how the actual handset manufacturers feel about this. It can’t make them (and their shareholders) too happy to know that people won’t necessarily care that much whether they’re getting an Apple or an HTC device.
It can’t make the wireless carriers ecstatic either. It’s hard enough to figure out what’s the main difference between them other than their network capabilities. So, the Open Handset Alliance has good ideas for all us but where does that leave the wireless and smartphone industry?

Choice of T-Mobile cell phones?
I’m currently looking at T-Mobile cell phones and I am having some difficulty deciding. Right now I have the Samsung Behold. Really the only thing I don’t like about it is that it has no apps or decent web browsing. I’m looking at bothe the HTC MyTouch 3G and the HTC HD2. Which would you choose? Considering price, looks, keyboard (I love the keyboard on the Samsung Behold), web browsing and platforms (MyTouch is Android and HD2 is Windows Mobile) … and whatever else. I like to text, so he keyboard will be important and I am also dead-set on a touch screen- I won’t be talked out of it.
Thanks for your suggestions.
I would personally choose the MyTouch as it looks like a good phone and it runs Android on it.
